Justice minister Martha Karua is now calling on women to vie for parliamentary seats in the forth coming general elections.
This follows the rejection by parliament of the constitutional amendment bill 2007 that sought to create 50 special parliamentary seats for women and 40 new constituencies,.
Speaking in her Gichugu constituency, Karua criticized the ninth parliament for letting down Kenyan women as it rejected the bill coined to empower and create level ground for women in the country.
Ms Karua said the Bill was sponsored by the Government and approved by the Cabinet and her colleagues erred by not supporting it.
She further said that more women were entitled to be nominated as representatives in the National Assembly to take part in leadership and decision-making.
The Bill would also have seen the increase of constituencies from 210 to 250 if it had been passed.
Ms Karua said the Electoral Commission of Kenya should now prepare for the General Election without a hurry since the number of constituencies remained the same.
Karua also said she would stand firm for what she believed was true and just.
‘‘I will not be cowed by anyone," she said.
"I will always stand firm for what I believe in, and especially if it is a just cause,'' she added.
